Car rental Namibia

Namibia is one of the larger countries not only in Southern Africa but also Africa as a whole. It is an extremely sparsely populated place which is almost entirely covered in arid and semi-arid desert. Driving your rental car through this grand country however will show you that it is a whole lot more than that as well. Cheap Car rentals in Namibia are not hard to find. Namibia has but a few major towns or cities; however through Drive Southern Africa you can rent yourself a car from anyone of these destinations.

The largest city in which you can find cheap car rentals in Namibia is in the country Capital Windhoek. Here you can rent a car from Eros Airport or Hosea Kutako International Airport, both in Windhoek city. Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek is the largest and busiest Airport in Namibia. Hosea Kutako International Airport gets its name from a famous Herero leader. Eros Airport is also an ideal place from which to take your hired car as the Eros Airport is only 5km away from Windhoeks central business district and Windhoek in itself lies very much in the centre of the country of Namibia.

Windhoek, lies on an inland plateau placed between the two deserts the Namib and the Kalahari. As it is so central, driving from Windhoek City enables you to visit a multitude of places, all accessible by car hire. Windhoeks city bound attractions all in short driving distance include things such as the Christ Church of 1896, The National Museum of Namibia. St. Marys Cathedral, Zoo Park, the Alte Festung, the National Library and the holy cross convent school.

Namibia Car Hire options also include Swakopmund. This charming, picturesque and pretty little town is a wonderful place from which to rent or hire a car and start exploring the majestic and exotic Southern African country of Namibia.

Another Namibia Car Hire town of interest, also on the coast and also one of the cheap car rental places in Namibia, is Walvis Bay. Rent a car from Walvis Bay Airport and drive through the popular vacation destination of this sublime harbour town. Getting a rental car from Walvis Bay Airport with Drive Southern Africa doesn't mean you necessarily have to drive to far away. There are a great many sights nearby to drive to, such as Walvis Bay's famous Sapphire lagoon. Walvis Bay is of course also a perfect place from which to rent out a hired car, should you wish to visit the celebrated 'Dune 7'

Lderitz is an old town of over a century. Driving through it from luderitz Airport you will find it sports a rich history. Here you will find small wonders such as the ruins of Kolmanskuppe, the Felsenkirche or the diamond settlement of Pomona.

Tsumeb is a Namibia Car Hire town that is yet another great place from which to get cheap car rentals in Namibia, as it is the nearest town to the major tourist destination of Etosha National Park. It is a lush place, reminiscent of the old mining town it once was.

Ondangwa and Oshakati

Are to further more towns from which you can hire out a car either from the Ondangwa Aiport or Oshakati Airport. The two cities are practically conjoined, so this wouldn't make much of a difference. They both lie nearby to the north of Etosha National Park.

Driving a rental car in Namibia

Drive your rental car on the left hand side of the road. Keep to the speed limits. (This is especially important on Gravel, sand or Mud roads, something that you will find a lot in a place like Namibia) Speed limits when driving in urban areas are 60 kilometres an hour with 120 kilometres an hour on tarred roads driving outside of urban areas. This changes to 100 kilometres an hour on gravel roads, so long as you are driving your rental car outside an urban area. Otherwise make sure you have you Drivers licence with you at all time (international or local), ensure that everyone in the rental vehicle has their seatbelt attached. The only other particulars specific for Driving in Namibia itself are to be wary of flooded roads during the November-March rainy season, and cross winds and dust storms.
